Onze Australische correspondent meldt een opmerkelijke wijnprijs. Brett Squibb, een appelkweker van Tasmanië, heeft de meest prestigieuze ‘award’ van Australië ontvangen voor een pinot noir. De wijn komt van 1 hectare bij Devonport. Brett twijfelt nu: de appelboomgaarden inwisselen voor wingerds of gewoon grond erbij kopen. Het bericht luidt:

“An apple grower from Tasmania's north-west coast has won Australia's most prestigious pinot noir award.
The pinot noir trophy at the Royal Hobart Wine Show went to a 2009 Blustery Banks wine, made by Rebecca Duffy for Brett and Linda Squibb.
They grow just two hectares of grapes - only half of which is pinot - at Wesley Vale near Devonport.
Brett Squibb says he's ecstatic, but still trying to process how the award will change things.
"We do go to the local Devonport farmers markets, you know, selling a case or two per farmers market," he said.
"I met a lot of people last night who have all of a sudden shown interest in our wine, I don't know why.
"We just hang on for the ride and see where it takes us."
