Horst Sauer uit Frankenland is in Londen bij de International Wine and Spirits Competition Duits Wijnmaker van het Jaar geworden. Het Duitse Wijninstituut bericht erover:

Horst Sauer was named German Wine Producer of the Year, crowning a year of particular success for wines from the Franken region - an outstanding 63 medals were awarded to the region?s wines, including 14 Gold (Best in Class). Prinz Michael Salm zu Salm ended his term of office as president of the UK’s longest running independent wine competition, the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), by toasting the success of producers across Germany, from VDP estates to cooperative wineries, who strive to produce top quality wines. The Jancis Robinson Trophy for Riesling returned to its Teutonic roots after several years in which it has been awarded to Australian wineries.
