Al begin december vorig jaar is in Portugal bekend geworden dat de witte, frisse vinho verde met een laag alcoholgehalte de wijn wordt van een van de twee Europese culturele hoofdsteden: Guimaraes. Dat nieuws is kennelijk pas laat doorgedrongen tot Nederland, want opeens wordt het als ‘nieuws’ gebracht in verschillende media. Dit jaar zal de Mondial de Bruxelles worden gehouden in Guimares. En bij de organisatie van dit evenement en een groot aantal juryleden voor de Mondial was de selectie van de Vinho Verde al enige tijd bekend. De website van de stad Guimares stuurde in december al een nieuwsbrief ( zie verzenddatum onderaan) rond met de volgende inhoud:

On the 6th of December, Guimarães 2012 signed three cooperation protocols with the Comissão de Viticultura da Região dos Vinhos Verdes (CVRVV), Confraria do Vinho Verde (CVV) and Adega Cooperativa de Guimarães (ACG). The aim is to promote Guimarães 2012 and increase the visibility of the Vinho Verde.
The three entities will collaborate and participate on the Guimarães 2012 events, from a technically point. On the other hand, Guimarães 2012 elects the Vinho Verde as the "Honour Wine" on the initiatives of the European Capital of Culture.

 

The CVRVV is an organization that aims to represent the professions' interests involved in the production and trade of the "Vinho Verde". The CVV supports the study and dissemination of works about the Vinho Verde, defending the authenticity, typicality and prestige of this wine. The ACG works in the agriculture sustainable development, especially with regard to production and marketing of Vinho Verde.
